A beautiful small deciduous tree renowned for its spectacular late spring display of double deep pink flowers. Glossy lobed leaves emerge fresh green in spring, providing a perfect backdrop for the profuse blossom display.
Small gardens, street trees, specimen planting, cottage gardens, and wildlife gardens. The flowers attract bees and other pollinators, while the dense branching provides nesting sites for birds.
Plant in any well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Very adaptable, tolerating poor soils, chalk, clay, and exposed positions. Minimal pruning required; remove any dead or crossing branches in winter. Best flowering occurs in full sun.
Underplant with spring bulbs, Geranium, Alchemilla mollis, and shade-tolerant perennials. Combines beautifully with other flowering trees like Malus and Prunus, creating a succession of blossom in spring.
A classic ornamental tree that brings spectacular colour to gardens in late spring when many other trees have finished flowering.
