Azalea mollis 'Jolie Madame' - Deciduous Azalea

This beautiful deciduous azalea offers two seasons of outstanding interest with its fragrant rose-pink spring blooms and spectacular autumn foliage. The flowers appear before the leaves in late spring, creating a stunning floral display, while the foliage provides brilliant orange and red tones in autumn.

Seasonal Highlights

Spectacular in late spring when covered in clusters of sweetly fragrant rose-pink flowers that appear on bare stems, creating a striking effect. The display lasts several weeks and fills the garden with delicious scent. In autumn, the foliage transforms into brilliant shades of orange, red and yellow before falling, providing a second season of interest.

Key Features

  • Fragrant rose-pink spring flowers
  • Spectacular autumn foliage colour
  • Flowers appear before leaves
  • Part of the reliable Mollis group
  • Fully hardy and easy to grow

Perfect For

Ideal for woodland gardens, mixed borders, and naturalistic plantings where seasonal change is celebrated. Works beautifully planted in groups for maximum impact or as specimen plants. Perfect for adding fragrance and colour to acidic soil areas, and excellent in larger containers on patios where the scent can be appreciated.

Growing Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Position in partial shade or dappled sunlight with protection from strong winds. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, using rainwater where possible in hard water areas. Mulch annually with ericaceous compost, leaf mould or pine needles. Prune only to remove dead or damaged wood after flowering.

Looks Great With

Combines beautifully with other acid-loving plants such as rhododendrons, camellias, and pieris. Plant alongside spring bulbs, ferns, and hostas for varied interest. Complements other Mollis azaleas in contrasting colours for a stunning spring display. Works well with Japanese maples and enkianthus for coordinated autumn colour.

A classic deciduous azalea offering fragrance, spring beauty and outstanding autumn colour for acidic soil gardens.
