View full detailsBy planting ornamental Pyrus trees, you add a touch of elegance and seasonal charm to your landscape while enjoying a low-maintenance, hardy addition to your garden.
Very long lived, sometimes living up to 250 years and they have been around for a long time. They have been grown in gardens and orchards throughout much of the UK since AD 995, with many cultivars now in existence.
They are deciduous trees with oval green leaves that usually have fantastic Autumn colour and scented white flowers in spring, followed by green or brown fruits which are edible in some species.
Choose a location with full sun to encourage abundant flowering and healthy growth. Prefers well-drained, fertile soil but can tolerate a range of soil types, including clay, loam, or sandy soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
Minimal pruning is needed, as ornamental Pyrus trees naturally form a neat and attractive structure. Should you need too then prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and maintain the desired shape.
Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring to support growth, particularly in nutrient-poor soils.
