This eye-catching deciduous barberry is renowned for its uniquely variegated foliage in shades of purple-red, pink, and creamy white. Compact and manageable, it brings vibrant colour and texture to gardens throughout the year with minimal maintenance required.
Spring brings small yellow flowers that contrast beautifully with the emerging variegated foliage. The leaf colours intensify through summer, while autumn sees bright red berries appear alongside fiery foliage tones before leaf fall.
Small gardens, front-of-border planting, low hedging, containers, and as a colourful accent plant. Excellent for adding year-round interest to compact spaces.
Plant in any well-drained soil in full sun to maintain the best leaf variegation. Tolerates partial shade but colours may be less intense. Very drought-tolerant once established. Prune lightly after flowering if required. Handle with gloves due to spines.
Plant with silver-leaved plants like Stachys byzantina, or with pink and purple flowers such as salvias and geraniums. Combines well with ornamental grasses for textural contrast.
A stunning compact shrub that provides exceptional colour and interest throughout the seasons.
