A compact deciduous perennial renowned for its spectacular deep navy-blue flower clusters that bring a dramatic focal point to any border or container display.
From mid to late summer, tall sturdy stems emerge bearing rounded umbels of rich navy-blue tubular flowers. The glossy strap-shaped foliage provides attractive ground cover throughout spring and summer before dying back in autumn.
Outstanding in mixed borders, gravel gardens, and coastal plantings. Superb for large containers on patios and terraces. Works beautifully in Mediterranean-style gardens and alongside ornamental grasses.
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Add grit to heavy clay soils to improve drainage. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage flowering. Deadhead spent blooms to maintain appearance. Mulch crowns in winter in colder regions. Divide congested clumps every 4-5 years in spring.
Combines beautifully with Pennisetum grasses, Echinacea, Salvia, and silvery Artemisia. Partner with Verbena bonariensis for a stunning late summer display.
A striking architectural perennial that delivers reliable colour and structure year after year with minimal care.
