Photinia ‘Red Robin’ – Evergreen Shrub with Striking Red New Growth
Photinia ‘Red Robin’ is one of the most popular evergreen shrubs for adding bold colour and year-round structure to the garden. Its vibrant red young leaves emerge in spring and after trimming, gradually maturing to glossy dark green, creating a beautiful contrast within the foliage.
In late spring, clusters of small creamy white flowers may appear above the leaves, adding seasonal interest and attracting pollinators. The combination of colourful new growth and dense evergreen structure makes ‘Red Robin’ a standout choice for hedging and screening.
Fast-growing and responsive to pruning, this variety is ideal for creating a neat, formal hedge or maintaining as a large specimen shrub. Regular trimming encourages fresh red growth, enhancing its ornamental appeal throughout the growing season.
Hardy and adaptable, Photinia ‘Red Robin’ thrives in sun or partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Once established, it is tolerant of urban conditions and provides reliable, year-round coverage with minimal maintenance.
Bold, versatile, and dependable, it remains one of the best evergreen shrubs for combining privacy with vibrant foliage colour.
