Magnolia stellata ‘Waterlily’ – Early Spring Starburst
Description
Magnolia stellata ‘Waterlily’ is a refined and elegant magnolia, celebrated for its profusion of large, star-shaped white flowers. Blooming in March and April, often before leaves appear, the flowers resemble waterlilies, with many narrow, ribbon-like petals.
Its compact, rounded habit and slow growth make ‘Waterlily’ perfect for smaller gardens, borders, or containers. The bright green summer foliage provides structure, turning warm yellow in autumn before falling to reveal attractive stems.
Size & Growth
A very slow-growing variety, typically reaching 2.5–3 m tall and wide over many years, with a rounded form.
Growing Conditions
Best in full sun to light shade. Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil, slightly acidic to neutral. Shelter from cold, drying winds and protect flower buds from late frosts.
