Viburnum tinus ‘Spirit’ – Compact Evergreen with Winter Flowers and Year-Round Colour
Viburnum tinus ‘Spirit’ is a beautifully compact, evergreen shrub that brings dependable colour and structure to the garden throughout the year. Smaller and tidier than the species, it forms a dense mound of glossy, dark green leaves that look fresh and polished in every season.
From autumn right through winter, the shrub is studded with deep pink buds that gradually open to clusters of small, scented white flowers. These nectar-rich blooms provide vital food for early pollinators and brighten the garden when little else is in flower. As spring arrives, the flowers give way to attractive metallic blue-black berries that add an extra layer of interest and are loved by birds.
Hardy, reliable, and very low maintenance, ‘Spirit’ thrives in sun or partial shade and copes well with a wide range of soils, including coastal and urban conditions. Its naturally compact habit makes it perfect for smaller gardens, mixed borders, evergreen structure, or as a neat, informal hedge. It also performs well in large containers, bringing winter colour close to doorways and patios.
Elegant, tough, and impressively long-flowering, Viburnum ‘Spirit’ is an invaluable shrub for year-round interest and reliable winter beauty.
