Heuchera ‘Obsidian’ – Deep Black Foliage for Year-Round Contrast
Heuchera ‘Obsidian’ is one of the darkest-leaved coral bells available, prized for its rich, glossy foliage that appears almost black in the garden. The rounded, gently ruffled leaves form a compact, tidy mound that adds depth, contrast, and a contemporary edge to borders, containers, and mixed planting schemes.
In early to mid-summer, slender stems rise above the foliage carrying airy sprays of small white flowers. These delicate blooms soften the intensity of the dark leaves and attract bees and other pollinators, adding lightness and movement without stealing focus from the foliage.
Evergreen to semi-evergreen in most UK gardens, ‘Obsidian’ provides reliable structure throughout the year, particularly valuable in shaded or partially shaded areas. Hardy, adaptable, and easy to grow, it thrives in sun or shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Its strong colour makes it a superb companion for silver, lime, and bright-flowered plants.
Bold, elegant, and effortlessly versatile, Heuchera ‘Obsidian’ is a must-have perennial for adding drama and contrast across all seasons.
