Euonymus alatus – The Winged Euonymus with Stunning Autumn Flame
Euonymus alatus, commonly known as the Winged Euonymus or Burning Bush, is a deciduous shrub cherished for its distinctive corky “wings” that run along the stems and its spectacular autumn colour. As the seasons turn, the glossy green leaves transform into a fiery display of reds and oranges, creating a brilliant focal point in the garden.
The shrub has a compact, upright growth habit, making it a versatile choice for hedging, specimen planting, or as a striking contrast in mixed borders. Its unique winged stems add architectural interest even in winter, when the leaves have fallen.
