Erysimum ‘Bowles’s Mauve’ – Long-Flowering Wallflower with Soft Purple Blooms
Erysimum ‘Bowles’s Mauve’ is a much-loved perennial wallflower, prized for its exceptionally long flowering period and soft, understated colour. From early spring through to late summer—and often beyond in mild conditions—it produces a continuous display of mauve-purple flowers, held above neat mounds of narrow, grey-green evergreen foliage.
The blooms are lightly fragrant and carried on slender stems, creating a relaxed, airy effect that blends effortlessly into mixed borders. Its soft colouring makes it particularly versatile, pairing beautifully with both pastel planting schemes and more vibrant combinations.
With its naturally bushy, upright habit, it provides structure and reliable colour over many months, making it a staple in cottage-style and informal garden designs. It is especially effective when planted in drifts, where the repeated colour creates a cohesive and calming display.
Thriving in a sunny, well-drained position, ‘Bowles’s Mauve’ prefers lighter soils and benefits from regular trimming after flowering to maintain shape and encourage fresh blooms.
Reliable, fragrant, and remarkably long-lasting, this classic wallflower is an excellent choice for adding soft colour and continuity to the garden throughout the growing season.
