Description
Miscanthus sinensis ‘Zebrinus’, also known as Zebra Grass, is renowned for its dramatic, arching leaves with horizontal golden-yellow bands across green foliage. In late summer, tall, silvery flower plumes rise above the plant, adding movement and texture.
Its upright, architectural form makes it a striking specimen in borders, naturalistic plantings, or as a backdrop for perennials. The foliage provides interest through summer and autumn, and the plant maintains structure in winter when cut back.
Size & Growth
Reaches approximately 2–2.5 m tall, with flower plumes extending up to 3 m, and spreads 1–1.5 m wide.
Growing Conditions
Thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. Hardy, adaptable, and low-maintenance once established.
Bold Foliage – Green leaves with horizontal yellow stripes.
Striking Plumes – Silvery flowers in late summer.
Architectural Form – Upright and arching habit for structure and movement.
Low Maintenance – Hardy, adaptable, and easy to grow.
Position: Full sun for best growth and plume development.

Watering: Water during establishment; drought-tolerant once mature.
Feeding: Light fertiliser in spring if soil is poor.
Pruning: Cut foliage to 10–15 cm in late winter or early spring before new shoots emerge.
Plant as a dramatic focal point or backdrop in mixed borders.
Use in groups for naturalistic or meadow-style plantings.
