Cotoneaster horizontalis – Elegant Fan-Shaped Branches with Year-Round Appeal
Cotoneaster horizontalis is a charming deciduous shrub celebrated for its unique, horizontally tiered branches that create a striking architectural form. Its delicate, small, glossy green leaves transform into a vivid red in autumn, offering spectacular seasonal colour.
In late spring, it produces clusters of small, creamy-white flowers that attract pollinators and brighten the garden. By autumn, these are replaced by abundant bright red berries, which persist well into winter and provide a valuable food source for birds.
Growing to about 1.5–2 metres tall and spreading wide, this adaptable shrub thrives in well-drained soil and enjoys full sun to partial shade. Its elegant structure makes it ideal for borders, slopes, or as a low hedge, bringing texture and wildlife-friendly features to your garden.
