otinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ – The Classic Purple Smoke Bush
Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ is a garden favourite, prized for its intense, velvety purple foliage that keeps its colour from spring through late summer. In early to midsummer, the plant produces a soft veil of delicate, smoke-like flower plumes, creating a romantic haze above the leaves and adding texture and movement to the display.
As autumn approaches, the foliage ignites in fiery shades of crimson, orange, and scarlet, ensuring a spectacular seasonal finale. This reliable, hardy shrub thrives in full sun, where its colour is richest, and requires very little maintenance once established.
Perfect as a focal point in mixed borders, as a backdrop for lighter-coloured planting, or in a contemporary garden design, ‘Royal Purple’ brings drama, depth, and year-round presence to any outdoor space.
