Yew Cone – Classic Evergreen Structure in a Compact Form
The Yew Cone (Taxus baccata), grown in a 5-litre pot and shaped to approximately 40–50cm tall, offers timeless structure and formal elegance in a manageable, compact size. Its neat, tapered silhouette adds instant architectural impact to both classic and contemporary garden designs, while its dense, dark green foliage brings lasting interest throughout the year.
This slow-growing evergreen is ideal for adding definition to entrances, pathways, borders, or patio containers. Whether used as a single focal point or repeated in symmetrical plantings, the Yew Cone is a garden essential for those who value order, longevity, and understated sophistication.
Why Choose the Yew Cone?
Elegant Tapered Form
Its classic conical shape brings instant structure to any garden space, perfect for flanking doorways, lining walkways, or adding vertical interest to beds.
Evergreen Appeal
The rich, glossy green needles offer colour and structure all year round, withstanding the elements and retaining their elegant form even in winter.
Compact Yet Impactful
At 40–50cm tall, it’s small enough for containers yet large enough to make a strong design statement in borders or formal layouts.
Long-Lived and Low Maintenance
Yews are renowned for their longevity and ease of care. A light annual trim is all it takes to maintain its sharp, symmetrical form.
Versatile Garden Use
Works beautifully in formal parterres, topiary arrangements, contemporary schemes, or as a standalone patio accent.

How to Grow and Care for Your Yew Cone
Soil – Adaptable to most soil types, including clay and chalk, as long as it is well-drained.
Light – Thrives in full sun to full shade. Yew is incredibly versatile and shade-tolerant.
Watering – Keep well-watered during establishment. Once rooted, it becomes highly drought-tolerant.
Pruning – Lightly trim once a year (late summer) to maintain shape and density.
Feeding – Use a general-purpose or slow-release fertilizer in spring to promote lush, healthy growth.
Whether used in containers, repeated along a path, or positioned as a formal accent in the garden, the Yew Cone (40–50cm) is a superb choice for adding year-round elegance and classic form to any outdoor space.
