Cherry Laurel hedging typically grows by 30–60cm per year. If left untrimmed, it can eventually reach heights of 6–8 metres, although most garden hedges are easily maintained between 1.5 and 3.5 metres with regular pruning.
Cherry Laurel is one type of laurel hedging plant. Laurel hedging is the umbrella term for evergreen hedges within the laurel family, which includes Cherry Laurel, Portuguese Laurel and other varieties grown for screening and privacy.
Cherry Laurel is often compared to Portuguese Laurel hedging. Cherry Laurel grows faster with larger leaves, making it ideal for rapid screening, while Portuguese Laurel offers a slightly more refined appearance.
Cherry Laurel thrives in moist, well-drained soil but adapts well to clay, chalky or shallow soils. It tolerates exposed sites and full shade. For best results, plant using good ground preparation and follow our hedge planting guide.
