Pyrus communis ‘Conference’ – Double U Frame Pear Tree
The ‘Conference’ pear is a much-loved heritage variety, renowned for its reliability, abundant crops, and delicious flavour. Here, it’s beautifully trained into a double U frame, creating a living piece of garden architecture that is as decorative as it is productive.
In early to mid-spring, clouds of soft white blossom appear along the elegantly trained branches, attracting pollinators and signalling the start of the fruiting season. By late summer into early autumn, these give way to clusters of long, golden-green pears with russeted skins and a wonderfully sweet, aromatic flesh. Perfect for eating fresh from the tree, they also store well and can be poached or baked for indulgent autumn desserts.
The double U frame shape not only maximises fruit production in a small space, but also adds a formal, ornamental element to the garden. Ideal for positioning against a sunny wall or sturdy fence, it’s equally at home in kitchen gardens, courtyards, or as a striking feature in an ornamental border.
