Salvia × jamensis ‘Magical Orinoco’ – Compact Salvia with Rich Crimson-Red Flowers
Salvia × jamensis ‘Magical Orinoco’ is a superb compact perennial from the outstanding Magical Series, producing an abundance of rich crimson-red tubular flowers over a remarkably long season. Flowering from late spring until the first frosts, it provides months of vibrant colour while attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinating insects.
The vivid flowers are carried on slender upright stems above neat, aromatic mid-green foliage, creating a colourful, bushy plant that remains tidy throughout the season. Its naturally compact habit makes it perfect for smaller gardens, mixed borders, gravel gardens, and patio containers.
Unlike many traditional salvias, ‘Magical Orinoco’ flowers continuously with very little interruption, especially when spent blooms are regularly removed. The colourful blooms contrast beautifully with ornamental grasses, silver foliage, and other sun-loving perennials, making it an excellent choice for contemporary and cottage-style planting schemes.
Thriving in full sun, this drought-tolerant perennial prefers fertile, well-drained soil and performs particularly well in warm, sheltered locations. Once established, it is easy to grow and requires very little maintenance beyond light trimming after flowering.
Hardy in most parts of the UK, applying a winter mulch in colder regions can help protect the crown during severe frosts.
Compact, colourful, and exceptionally floriferous, Salvia ‘Magical Orinoco’ is an outstanding choice for bringing long-lasting colour and pollinator activity to the garden.
