Its glossy, dark green leaves provide a beautiful backdrop to the flowers and maintain a lush appearance throughout the growing season.

Planting & Care Guide
Position: Magnolia 'Elizabeth' thrives in full sun to partial shade. For optimal bloom production and foliage color, plant it in a sunny location where it can receive at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. It can tolerate some shade but may not flower as profusely in lower light conditions.
Soil: Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil, rich in organic matter. While it can tolerate a range of soil types, it thrives best in loamy, moist, but well-drained soil. Avoid planting in heavy clay soils that may retain too much water.
Watering: Water regularly when newly planted to establish a strong root system. Once established, Magnolia 'Elizabeth' is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from regular watering during dry spells to ensure vibrant blooms and healthy foliage.
Maintenance:
Pruning is generally minimal, but any necessary pruning should be done immediately after flowering to maintain the tree's shape and remove dead or damaged wood. Avoid heavy pruning, as this may affect the bloom production for the next season.
Mulching around the base of the tree helps to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Apply a layer of mulch in early spring to keep the roots cool and protected.
Fertilizing is usually not required if the tree is planted in fertile soil, but a light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring can support healthy growth and more abundant flowers.
Perfect Plant Combinations
Magnolia 'Elizabeth' pairs beautifully with other early-season bloomers like Forsythia, Corylopsis (Buttercup Winterhazel), or Primula (Primrose), where the bright yellow magnolia flowers can complement the springtime palette. For a refined garden look, combine it with shrubs like Hydrangea paniculata or Rhododendron, whose later blooms create a dynamic contrast with the early magnolia flowers. It also looks stunning as a specimen tree in a lawn or mixed border, where its upright form and elegant blooms can be showcased alongside ornamental grasses or groundcovers like Hostas or Astilbe.
