Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ – Fragrant Winter Daphne with Golden-Edged Foliage
Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ is a treasured evergreen shrub, prized for its intensely fragrant winter flowers and beautifully variegated foliage. As the colder months begin to ease, clusters of pink buds open to pale pink and white blooms, releasing a powerful, sweet perfume that carries through the garden.
The glossy green leaves are edged with a fine golden margin, providing year-round colour and light even when the plant is not in flower. This attractive foliage makes it a valuable structural plant in shaded borders and sheltered planting schemes.
Compact and slow-growing, ‘Aureomarginata’ is perfect for planting near pathways, doorways, or seating areas where its winter fragrance can be fully appreciated. It performs particularly well in sheltered spots, protected from harsh winds and cold, drying conditions.
While slightly more particular than many shrubs, it rewards careful positioning with exceptional seasonal interest. Best grown in partial shade and moist, well-drained soil, it dislikes disturbance once established, so choose its planting position carefully.
Elegant, scented, and beautifully refined, Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ brings invaluable winter perfume and evergreen structure to the garden.
