Ceanothus ‘Italian Skies’ – Upright Californian Lilac with Clear Blue Flowers
Ceanothus ‘Italian Skies’ is a striking evergreen shrub, valued for its clear, sky-blue flowers and strong, upright growth. In late spring to early summer, it produces dense clusters of bright blue blooms that stand out vividly against the dark green foliage, creating a fresh and uplifting display.
The leaves are small, glossy, and deep green, forming a dense backdrop that provides structure throughout the year. Its naturally bushy, upright habit makes it particularly suitable for use as an informal hedge or as a larger specimen shrub in borders.
Compared to more compact or spreading ceanothus varieties, ‘Italian Skies’ offers greater height and presence, making it ideal for adding vertical structure and screening within planting schemes.
Thriving in full sun, it prefers free-draining soil and performs well in sheltered positions. Once established, it is relatively tolerant of dry conditions and is well suited to coastal gardens.
Low maintenance and easy to grow, it benefits from light pruning after flowering to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth.
Elegant, vibrant, and reliable, Ceanothus ‘Italian Skies’ is an excellent choice for adding height, colour, and evergreen structure to the garden.
