The Aucuba shrub is a versatile evergreen that boasts striking alternate green leaves. And with an almost camouflage pattern, this shrub will really complement the other green tones in your garden. The Aucuba or the ‘Japanese Laurel’, as it is sometimes referred to, bears red berries and offers colder and more wintery shades. A great pairing to go next to the Aucuba is the similarly coloured evergreen shrub, Photinia. But make sure you plant it in partial sunlight. 

 As well as looking pretty, shrubs can provide a habitat for wildlife. Due to their dense nature when planted in close proximity, shrubs look similar to a hedge, with ample sheltered space for insects and animals to thrive in.
