Portuguese Laurel

The posh form of laurel hedging. They cost a little more than common laurel but they are more graceful in appearance with purple shoots and finer leaves. They grow fairly swiftly and require trimming once or twice a year. Plant in any soil except for waterlogged. Myrtifolia is an even finer leaved form and at first glance looks just like bay laurel but much hardier

Where Should I Plant My Portuguese Laurel Hedging?

Portuguese Laurel Hedging thrives in moist, well-drained soils. While it can tolerate poor, shallow, and slightly chalky conditions, it is not ideal. Prunus Lusitanica is highly adaptable, enduring both warm and cold, exposed sites, and can also grow well in partial shade. For optimal health, ensure regular pruning and fertilising to maintain the desired height, shape, and condition.

Growth & Pruning

Portuguese Laurel Hedging can reach heights of up to 8 meters, with an annual growth rate of 30-60 cm (about 1-2 feet). This moderate growth rate makes it easy to prune and maintain without becoming unruly.

Portuguese Laurel Hedging responds well to pruning and can be shaped into various forms and sizes. Pruning should be done around twice a year, depending on the desired size of the hedge.

To keep your Portuguese Laurel Hedging healthy and vibrant, it is advisable to remove berries and flowers. This helps the plant focus its energy on producing lush, green leaves rather than decorative berries and flowers. However, this is optional and up to personal preference.

How long does delivery take?

Where will you leave my plants?

We will leave your order at the front of your property, Parcelforce may
leave your items in a safe place if you let us know, Pallet couriers
will require a flat hard surface to deliver to, no gravel or soil, a
driveway or parking spot would be best. Most importantly Deliveries by
pallet courier will require access for a large truck (bin lorry sized)
to get near the delivery point. Deliveries sent on our own transport may come in a small van or larger truck.
