View full detailsTopiary Columns are a stunning and refined addition to any garden or indoor space, showcasing the art of topiary with a sophisticated twist. These formal, eye-catching features are meticulously shaped from evergreen shrubs or trees into elegant, vertical columns. This distinctive form adds a touch of grandeur and structure to your environment.
Topiary Columns are relatively straightforward to care for, though they do require regular attention to maintain their elegant shape. They are often kept in pots or planted directly in the ground, so consistent watering is essential. Using a high-quality topiary fertiliser supports healthy growth while controlling excess foliage, which helps reduce the frequency of pruning.
These columns thrive in partial shade to full sun and benefit from regular feeding and care. A thorough trim, traditionally performed in late winter or early spring, along with periodic maintenance throughout the year, will ensure your topiary columns remain in pristine condition.
The growth rate of topiary balls varies depending on the plant species, and at Grasslands, our selection reflects this diversity. For instance, Boxwood topiary balls grow slowly and steadily, developing their classic, dense shapes over time. In contrast, Yew topiary balls have a moderate growth rate, allowing them to achieve their rounded forms more quickly, though they still require regular pruning to maintain their shape. Hornbeam topiary balls grow faster, filling out more quickly but needing frequent trimming to keep their shape. To find the ideal topiary ball for your garden, click on each product to view detailed information about their specific growth rates and sizes.
Ensure consistent moisture, especially if the column is kept potted. Regular watering is crucial to keep the roots healthy, but avoid overwatering, which can lead to waterlogging and root rot.
Pruning is essential to maintain the elegant, vertical shape and overall health of the column. Use sharp, clean shears to trim off any excess growth and maintain the desired form. A more significant trim is best done in late winter or early spring, with regular touch-ups throughout the year to preserve the column’s structure.
Use a high-quality topiary fertiliser to support healthy growth and maintain the column's refined appearance. Fertilize regularly during the growing season to ensure optimal health and vigor.
