Tree Fern Dicksonia Antarctica 2 Foot Log
2 Foot Log.
Long fronds unfurl from the top of the log looking very Jurassic in a shady planting scheme. Our tree ferns are cut from the forests in Tasmania. They have no roots under them, but watered from the top, will root within a couple of years into your soil. They are only in the pot to stop then blowing over and to keep the base moist. Plant them deep enough to keep them from blowing over. They like humus rich acid soil and partial or full shade. In dry weather water the top of the trunk and allow the top to fill with water. In winter, when the fronds have had a frost, cut them off and protect the top of the trunk with a wad of straw & sacking or some other insulation until the following spring. We use the cut off fronds and a plant pot over the top to hold the wadding in position. Lift it off the following spring when the worst of winter has gone or you see the monkey tails coming up.
