Wisteria is a lovely woody twining climber with beautiful perfumed flowers. They are one of the more hardy climbers which you can train them to climb up walls and over garden structures. Carpinus Betulus are extremely forgiving of a variety of planting situations. Grown in full sun or partial shade, in any well-drained soil, Standard Hornbeam Trees will do well in an exposed or sheltered location. While it will thrive when given consistent moisture, it will not tolerate an extended period of waterlogged soil. It is not tolerant of salt, so is not suited to planting in coastal regions or where it will be exposed to road salt. However, it will do well in city gardens since it is tolerant of pollution.

Pinus or pines as they are popularly known as, are evergreen conifers that are long lived and can live up to 1,000years. The bark varies from thick and scaly to thin and flaking.
Pines have four types of leaves, the seed leaves that are found on seedlings, juvenile leaves that follow the seed leaves, scale leaves that are small and brown and formed spirally and the needles, these are adult leaves which are a long dark green.
Pinus grow really well in acidic soils, they do need good soil drainage but some varieties can tolerate poorly drained wet soils.
Pinus Pinea is a&nbsp;slow growing, beautiful, round compact pine with dark green needles. They are particularly attractive when the stems are cleaned up as they form the traditional Italian looking umbrella shape. Hence that common name of the umbrella pine. The seeds of the cones are also used in pesto sauces. Every year there is also the fun of tickling the brown...up a small ladder beautifying the tree by tickling out the dead needles. It also puts up with salty air and is why you see so many on the coast in the mediterranean. If you can afford a bigger one then go for it as you don't want to be pushing up daisies yourself before you get to see the glory of their beauty...they are very slow growing. Give them plenty of light and room in general soil as long as it's well drained. You can easily improve the conditions by incorporating gravel in the planting hole or large pot.&nbsp;

Laurus Nobilis are also known as bay laurels and form a large shrub or tree. They are evergreen  and have glossy, aromatic leaves. These leaves are often used in cooking. In Spring the Laurus Nobilis bears clusters of green-yellow flowers which are followed, on female plants by black berries. Bays are best suited to fertile soil in full or partial sun and should be sheltered from cold winds. Regular pruning is not required but can be trimmed to maintain the shape in late Spring.

Standards are usually formed by cleaning a straight trunk to around 2 metres then forming up a head on the top. Sometimes on the same plant or by grafting on to a more reliable root and stem stock. They are formal, showy plants which are shaped from small trees or shrubs. Topiary plants are relatively easy to care for but do need regular pruning to maintain a neat and tidy shape. Topiary is often kept potted so will require regular watering and a high quality topiary compost. Using a specialist topiary fertiliser will reduce excess growth so less pruning is needed. The pruning of topiary is relatively easy, simply trim off any protruding branches using sharp shears. Topiary frames can be used as a guide to guarantee a perfect shape.
