Potentillas are a deciduous, herbaceous shrub with palmately divided leaves which are often heavily veined or wrinkled. They are long-flowering and bear saucer-shaped flowers in varying colours throughout spring, summer and autumn. This makes them ideal in a mixed flower border or as ground cover. Potentillas are fairly easy to grow and should be dead headed in early spring to encourage new growth. They can also be given a light trim to maintain a controlled shape. Potentillas grow well in moderately fertile, well drained soil and in full sunlight.
