Escallonia

Escallonia

Escallonia are evergreen shrubs found in the woodlands of South America. They are grown for their alternate, glossy, oval leaves and panicles of tubular flowers. Flowers are five-petalled and come in whites, pinks and reds with spreading or erect lobes. Escallonia are long flowering plants and are best planted in a shrub border or as a hedge. They are fully hardy and grow well in fertile, well drained soil in full sulight. Escallonia should be sheltered from cold winds and should be trimmed in late spring to maintain a good even shape.
