Hamamelis is a winter-flowering shrub more commonly knows as Witch Hazel. Its spicy fragrance and spidery flowers in shades of yellow, orange and reds make it a must for the winter garden. Witch Hazel will thrive in an open, sunny position as plants can become leggy in the shade. It's best to avoid exposed and windy positions. Witch Hazel need moist, free-draining soil. They can tolerate a heavy or clay soil if it is improved by digging in organic matter.
