Enkianthus are compact deciduous shrubs which are grown for their corymb-like, bell shaped flowers. These are borne in early summer and can be pink, red or white in colour. Enkianthus leaves are lance-shaped, toothed and turn a lovely deep red in winter. Enkianthus are best grown in well fertile, well drained, acidic soil. If required, any out of places branches can be cut back in late winter or early spring.
