How to Grow and Care for Your Leucanthemum ‘Ooh La Lagrande’
-
Soil – Prefers well-drained, fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. It can tolerate a variety of soil types as long as drainage is good.
-
Light – Grows best in full sun, where it can receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. It can tolerate light shade, but blooming may be reduced.
-
Watering – Water regularly, particularly during dry spells, but be sure the soil drains well to prevent waterlogging. Once established, ‘Ooh La Lagrande’ is moderately drought-tolerant.
Maintenance:
-
Mulch & Feed – Apply a layer of mulch around the plant in spring to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Fertilize lightly with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at the beginning of the growing season to promote healthy growth and an abundant bloom display.
-
Deadheading & Cleanup – Remove spent flowers regularly to promote continuous blooming and keep the plant looking tidy. After the flowering season, cut back the plant’s stems to keep the garden neat and encourage new growth.
-
Division – Divide every 2-3 years to prevent overcrowding and to maintain plant vigor. The best time to divide is in early spring or fall, when the plant is not actively blooming.
Perfect Plant Combinations
Leucanthemum ‘Ooh La Lagrande’ pairs beautifully with a variety of sun-loving perennials and grasses. For a striking contrast, combine it with plants like Echinacea, Rudbeckia, or Salvia, where the bold white flowers stand out against rich purples, pinks, and oranges. It also looks stunning when planted alongside ornamental grasses such as Miscanthus or Pennisetum, whose soft, feathery plumes create a lovely contrast with the daisy’s bold structure. In a cottage or naturalized garden, combine ‘Ooh La Lagrande’ with plants like Penstemon, Achillea, or Coreopsis for a colorful and texturally diverse planting scheme. For a classic, clean look, pair with other white or pastel-toned flowers, such as Gaura, Lobelia, or Campanula, to create a serene, monochromatic palette. Finally, this large-flowered daisy is perfect in a cutting garden where its bold blooms can be used in floral arrangements.
