Paeonia
Great savings
Paeonia or Peony
There are 3 types of Peony, the ones who die back every winter to reemerge again the next spring, the tree variety who are a bit more woody but stick around during winter just loosing the leaves and the hybrids which are a mixture between the two but quite hard to find.
The one thing they all have in common is the pretty cut folliage and large, beautiful showy flowers in early summer, some varieties can get very large and heavy in flower so may need staking.
Where to Site your Peony
These looks great in any location but just make sure you won't change your mind before you plant them as established peony plants have deep roots that make transplanting difficult or even impossible.
How to Grow an Look after your Peony
They like to be planted in full sun or semi shade and deep, rich moist soil.
Paeonias are a must have in the garden but do not plant them too deep or they will not flower, keep the woody roots and eyes at soil level.
Come spring time its best to mulch and feed to give them a good kick start to th season.
In autumn cut back the dead stems and they can also be divided in autumn as well.
They are fully hardy and don't need any winter protection
