Not the obvious choice when thinking about planting a new hedge but we think it's time Elaeagnus got the credit it deserves, they really do make a wonderful hedge. The varieties we offer in Elaeagnus are evergreen. Their foliage tends to be scaly to the touch and mainly green in colour, although some varieties are rimmed in yellow and vice versa. As an extra added bonus Elaeagnus bear small fragrant flowers often followed by small juicy fruits.
Elaeagnus will tolerate pretty much any soil with the exception of shallow, chalky soils. It is drought tolerant and can even cope with clay soils.
Elaeagnus requires a little pruning and will make a tightly knit large hedge very quickly - just prune to shape and cut out any unwanted branches.
As with most plants, Elaeagnus will benefit from a feed or you can mulch to offer nutrients as well.
