Hamamelis or witch hazel are deciduous shrubs grown for their early flowers. They have round, pale green leaves and for the biggest part of the year look rather boring. During winter the zig zag branches become wreathed in small hand like flower buds that open in January.
Hamamelis Ruby Glow have ruby red highly scented flowers that crinkle around the branches looking like yellow angel hair pasta. Can reach a height of 4m.
Hazel grow well in fertile, well-drained soil. They can be cut back after flowering in early spring to maintain their shape. They look great mixed in with cornus and other winter garden plants
