Dryopteris ferns are mostly deciduous but in mild winters most do stay green in sheltered sites , they produce kidney shaped spores. The foliage looks very attractive planted with herbaceous perennials and shrubs.
Dryopteris are easy to grow in most cool, moist, lightly shaded sites. Tolerant of dry shade but water regularly in their first season and mulch well. This is a striking border fern suitable for a protected moist site.
Dryopteris Erythrosora is also known as Copper Shield Fern are semi-evergreen fern with fronds which are often coppery-red when young turning shiny dark green and pink spores. They can reach Heights of 70cm.
