How to Grow and Care for Your Hosta ‘Frances Williams’
-
Soil – Prefers well-drained, moisture-retentive soil with plenty of organic matter to keep its roots happy.
-
Light – Grows best in partial to full shade. While it can tolerate some morning sun, too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves.
-
Watering – Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, but ensure it’s never waterlogged to prevent root rot.
Maintenance:
-
Mulch & Feed – Add a layer of mulch in spring to help retain moisture and keep the roots cool during hot weather. Feed with a balanced fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth.
-
Divide Every Few Years – If the plant becomes too large or congested, divide it in early spring or fall to maintain vigor and encourage fresh growth.
-
Remove Dead Leaves – Trim away any yellowing or dead leaves to maintain the plant’s clean, attractive appearance.
Perfect Plant Combinations Hosta ‘Frances Williams’ pairs beautifully with other shade-loving perennials such as ferns, astilbes, and Brunnera. Its golden foliage contrasts nicely with the deep greens of other hostas, while the soft, airy fronds of ferns or the vibrant blooms of astilbes create an enchanting display. For added drama, combine it with dark-leaved coral bells or the silvery foliage of lamb’s ears for a bold, contrasting look.
