Cornus controversa ‘Variegata’ – The Elegant Wedding Cake Tree
Cornus controversa ‘Variegata’, affectionately known as the Wedding Cake Tree, is one of the most elegant and architectural small trees for the garden. Its naturally tiered, horizontal branches create a layered silhouette, giving it a unique and graceful presence in any landscape.
In spring, the fresh green leaves unfurl edged with soft, creamy white margins, catching the light and adding brightness to the garden. In early summer, delicate flat clusters of creamy-white flowers appear, attracting bees and other pollinators. These are followed in autumn by small black berries that provide food for birds.
The autumn colour is another highlight, with the variegated leaves taking on golden tones before they fall. Even in winter, its tiered branch structure creates a striking silhouette against the sky.
