Rosmarinus officinalis – Aromatic Evergreen with Classic Mediterranean Charm
Rosmarinus officinalis, commonly known as Rosemary, is a timeless evergreen shrub that brings fragrance, flavour, and year-round structure to the garden. Its slender, aromatic, needle-like leaves and upright, branching form offer a clean, architectural look that suits both traditional and contemporary planting styles.
In spring, and often again in late summer, the plant is sprinkled with soft, pale blue flowers that attract bees and other early pollinators. These delicate blooms contrast beautifully with the deep green foliage, adding a gentle lift of colour as the season begins. Even outside of flowering, Rosemary’s evergreen form provides texture, scent, and structure every month of the year.
Hardy, drought tolerant, and remarkably low maintenance, Rosemary thrives in full sun and free-draining soil — making it perfect for Mediterranean-style gardens, gravel beds, herb borders, and pots. It also makes a superb low informal hedge, releasing its aromatic oils with every touch or brush past.
Versatile, reliable, and endlessly useful in the kitchen, Rosemary earns its place in almost every garden — a beautiful blend of ornamental value and practical pleasure.
