Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’ – Upright Ornamental Pear for Year-Round Elegance and Urban Resilience
Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’, also known as the Chanticleer Pear or Callery Pear, is a handsome, upright ornamental tree renowned for its narrow, columnar shape, early spring blossoms, and long-lasting autumn foliage. It’s a superb choice for modern urban landscapes, avenues, and tight spaces, offering four-season interest, pollution tolerance, and neat, manageable growth. Elegant in both form and function, ‘Chanticleer’ delivers a crisp, clean silhouette that works beautifully in formal or informal settings.
Seasonal Beauty & Growth
Spring:
In early spring, ‘Chanticleer’ is covered in masses of pure white flowers, which appear before or alongside the emerging foliage. These star-like blooms are a beacon for pollinators and create a dazzling, cloud-like effect.
Summer:
The dense canopy of glossy, dark green leaves provides excellent summer screening and shade while retaining a tidy, formal outline.
Autumn:
In autumn, the foliage turns a vibrant medley of reds, purples, and oranges, providing one of the most long-lasting displays of any ornamental tree before eventually falling very late in the season.
Winter:
Its upright, uniform framework remains neat and structured, often holding its leaf well into early winter for extended seasonal beauty.
