Callicarpa are also know as Beauty Berry. They are at their best in Autumn / Winter when they produce violet purple berries on bare stems. The foliage starts off bronze and matures to green with age. Pale pink flowers are borne in mid Summer.
It's best to prune beautyberry shrubs in late winter or very early spring. There are two methods of pruning. The simplest is to cut the entire shrub back to 6 inches above the ground. It grows back with a neat, rounded shape.The beautyberry tolerates various soil conditions but grows best in moist, well-draining soils.
