Osmanthus are evergreen shrubs or small trees. The flowers are produced in spring, summer or autumn and are generally white (but can occasionally be yellow or orange) and star-shaped. They are usually frangrant and are often followed by oval blue-black fruits. Osmanthus prefer fertile, well-drained soil and a sheltered site as they can suffer in cold winds.
