Cornus are deciduous shrubs with bright, showy stems more commonly known as Dogwood. They bear lance-shaped green leaves and small, star-shaped flowers which are followed by clusters of strawberyy like berries. Cornus are best planted in a woodland style garden or as a specimen tree. They require a well drained, fertile soil and prefer a neutral rather than an acidic soil. However, that should not stop you planting Cornus as you can simply add some ericaceous compost at the time of planting.
