Caryopteris or bluebeard are a lovely deciduous shrub perfect for small gardens. They bear aromatic, simple leaves with either blue or white flowers. The flowers are small but grow in clusters during the late summer season adding an ornamental feature when most other plants are in decline. Caryopteris should be given a good trim in early spring to encourage new growth and to keep the shrub looking tidy. They thrive in light, well drained soil in full sunlight.
