Anchusa

Anchusa

Anchusa or Bugloss are hairy leaved, clump forming perennials. They will grow well in any soil as long as there is good drainage. They prefer full sun but tolerate partial shade. They are no problem as long as they do not sit wet all winter. The flowers are on stalks and appear from early summer and will carry on right through if you can be bothered to deadhead the spent blooms. Cut down in autumn to encourage better leaf growth in preparation for winter die back. In very cold climates mulch over the crown with some compost.
