Metasequoia - dawn redwood - a large upright quick growing deciduous hardy conifer. Linear leaves that are brown, pink and yellow in the autumn and green in spring and summer, the pollen cones are borne in early spring, but are only produced when we have really hot summers. They might be grow too tall for small gardens but given space they do look beautiful. They thrive in wet soil conditions but can also tolerate dry soils and because they are deciduous they don't create too much shade in the Winter. If you have the space they are worth growing as they require very little work. They tend to be found in parks and lined up as street trees.
